It would be great if there was a way for us to run away from those people who aren’t meant to be from the very start.

That there would exist a possibility of us knowing when things won’t work out before we fall in love with the other person wholeheartedly and before it becomes too late.

Well, even though nobody can give you a recipe which guarantees that you’ll never have your heart broken or that you’ll never make the wrong choice, there are some ways that can help you avoid getting into a relationship without a future.

1. Stop expecting others to change because of you

The first thing you need to admit to yourself if you want to save yourself from a lot of unnecessary relationship headaches is that you won’t like everything about the guy you’re into.

He will always have flaws which you simply have to accept as a part of who he is.

Actually, to be more precise—when you first meet a guy, you have to be honest with yourself: can you accept the real him or are you hoping to modify the parts you don’t like?

Remember that even though you and your partner will compromise about many things, the essence of his personality will always remain the same.

So if you hope that your love can change a man who doesn’t want to do it himself, think again because that can never work.

2. And stop changing because of others

The same goes for your personality, as well. If you want to avoid getting into a relationship which is doomed to fail, you have to stop pretending to be someone you’re not.

The last thing you should allow is for some douchebag to mold you his way and to manipulate you into thinking that you’re not enough just the way you are.

Sooner or later, all of this acting will tire you, and you’ll lose yourself in the process.

Besides, you want a guy to fall in love with the real you and not some imaginary person that doesn’t even exist.

Therefore, instead of trying hard to get others to like you, start loving yourself before expecting anyone else to do it.

I assure you that a healthy relationship with yourself is the basis for a healthy relationship with everyone else, including your romantic partners.

3. Learn from your previous relationships

One of the golden rules of dating is to get rid of all emotional baggage from your past before you jump into a new relationship.

However, this doesn’t mean that you should put aside or completely forget all the harsh but valuable lessons your relationships taught you.

Everything you’ve been through happened for a reason, and now is the time to take advantage of all the pain you’ve experienced.

Your previous relationships helped you realize what you want or don’t want.

They helped you see what you should never settle for and what you deserve. Now is the time to put that knowledge to good use!

4. Don’t lower your standards

Don’t get me wrong—I’m not saying that you should be too picky when it comes to men.

I’m not telling you to wait for a Prince Charming who will magically appear in your life.

The truth is that there is no such thing as perfection, and you shouldn’t look for it either.

However, this doesn’t mean that you should ever lower your standards.

Always be aware of what you want and need, and don’t let anyone convince you that you’re asking for too much.

Remember—it’s always better to remain single until the right guy comes along then enter new relationships which don’t have any chance of surviving.

5. Be honest about your expectations

Another thing that can help you avoid trapping yourself in a relationship which is doomed to fail is being honest about what you are bringing into the relationship as well as about what you want from it.

And the same goes for your partner.

Talk to each other about your future plans and expectations.

See if you’re compatible and if you can meet each other halfway. Besides love, this is a recipe for success.
